Marine

With an easy approach channel and a sheltered inner harbour, vessels of up to 228m in length and up to 10.5 metres draft have regularly used the port. The Port of Timaru provides a 24 hour a day pilotage service all year round.

To assist in the berthing and unberthing of vessels the Port of Timaru is served by a 36 tonne bollard pull tug - "Te Maru", supplemented by the pilot launch "Ohau" with a bollard pull of 5 tonnes.

The Port of Timaru operates a berth booking system for liner vessels serving the port on a regular basis. Acceptance of a booking guarantees the operator the availability of a berth, labour, crane and plant.

PTL's marine services are certified to ISO 9002 quality standards.

Cargo Services

Containers/Breakbulk Handling Service

PTL operates a container handling and breakbulk facility known as the North Mole Freight Station and provides the following services:

• Receiving and delivery of cargo - road or rail
  

• Storage - containers and breakbulk
  
• Stevedoring and marshalling of cargo
  
• Container cleaning and repairs
  
• Monitoring of reefer containers
  
• Container packing and unpacking
  
• Container management for various shipping lines
  
• Container tracking, ship planning and reporting via EDI (Navis SPARCS)

The North Mole

Services are certified to ISO 9002 quality standards.

Dry Bulk Cargoes

Export grains are handled via the No.2 Wharf Bulk Handling Facility and Shiploader.

Both import and export dry bulk cargoes can be handled at the North Mole, using ship's cranes and/or the port's two mobile harbour cranes with 10m³ and 15m³ grabs.

Stevedoring Service

A full range of stevedoring services can be provided by PTL Stevedoring.

Hydrographic Services

Hunter Hydrographic Services (HHS) provides comprehensive, high quality and competitive hydrographic survey and dredge support services to a number of ports in New Zealand and Australia.

Marine Repair Services

These are available at Timaru covering major and minor repair requirements.

Cargo Certification

Full cargo certification is available from SGS Ltd., who are situated on the North Mole container area.

Fumigation

Fumigation is available on site for loose cargoes and full container loads, saving cargo relocation costs.

Provedoring

Full competitive provedoring services are available.

MAF/MOF/Customs

Full services are available at the port

• PTL offers competive contracts for a total package of services or individual services according to customer requirements.

• PTL has ISO 9002 Certification for its North Mole Freight Station and its marine services

• PTL is a self-regulating company in respect of Occupational Safety & Health (OSH)

• Its agreements and standards can be benchmarked against other service providers and will rank highly in all surveys
